Another step in the dance...
Recently received a phone call from the CSA. Told them I couldn't talk just then and to write to me.
Letter turned up the next day! But it only gives me 7 days to respond.
Does that 7 days have any basis in law?
Seems a very short period. 14 days seems to more the norm for this kind of thing. Pity they can't be held to similar tight deadlines.

IMHO telling them you can't speak to them is "silly" as they will think you are being evasive.
Lots of things the CSA do have no basis in Law, but they are able to enforce them. I've paid the CSA off and stopped them taking payments:beer:
I'm stillowed some arrears by my ex
I was a NRP, now I'm a PWC, partner of a PWC, and parent of a PWC ( and very confused at times )0 -
Why don't you just ring them back, what do you need 7/14 days for?Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

MissMontana if the OP is an NRP they may well need 7-14 days to get all the info together.
I had to provide a mortgage statement showing how much capital and interest I was repaying ( had to come from Bank, and it cost me), how much I earned over a 3 month period, my partners income, all sorts of stuff.
Now I'm not stupid, and fairly organised, but it took me well over a week to get it together.
The actualy time to complete the forms was several hours let alone collect the information.
What Pees me of is that the CSA will repeatedly ask the NRP for the same information over and over as if trying to catch you out, one of the best things you can do is copy the form before sending it back and keep a note of any chenges you tell them about. I've paid the CSA off and stopped them taking payments:beer:

Could you respond by saying that you are getting together all the paperwork requested but it will take a further 14 days to provide the full information?
Send anything back by special delivery though.

HB07... But the OP doesn't say what they were asking for in the letter....Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

They take 20 days, so if that is OK for them then it is OK for you, it is that simple!0

But surely if they phone when your busy doing something else - like at work or in an enviroment where you can't talk in private its quite reasonable to say "you can't talk just then".0 -
Like phoning when you are in the middle of a busy bus station .Then went on my reckord as non compliant and a DEO even though i called them back that night0
-
mmmmm, the LEGAL time to respond and comply with data protection requests is 40 days from reciept of request.
yet another law the csa don't abide by.
the worst case i have heard of is one guy who waited 120 odd days for compliance.
so, 7-14 isn't exactly unreasonable now, is it??
the chimps should get their own house in order before preaching.
all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others........................;)NEVER ARGUE WITH AN IDIOT. THEY'LL DRAG YOU DOWN TO THEIR LEVEL AND BEAT YOU WITH EXPERIENCE.
and, please. only thank when appropriate. not to boost idiots egos.0 -
"I can't speak right now, call me back in 20 minutes, an hour etc" is IMHO reasonable.
Bombarding NRPs with calls and not answering calls is IMHO not reasonable.
Blob where does the 20 days figure come from
I've just found on http://www.publiclawproject.org.uk/documents/ComplaintToPartPBs.pdf
the following regarding the CSA
Stage 1 - contact the person you have been dealing with, or their manager, with your complaint.
You can e-mail your complaint from the CSA website at https://www.csa.gov.uk, or you can write or
phone. Your complaint will be acknowledged, and if it is likely to take longer than 15 working
days to provide a full reply, the CSA will let you know.
Stage 2 - if the person you have already been dealing with cannot settle your complaint, you can
contact the Complaint Resolution Team, either by visiting the CSA website (as above), or by
contacting the office you have been dealing with, or by calling the national helpline on 08457 133
133.
Stage 3 - if you are not happy with the reply from the Complaint Resolution Team, you should
contact the Area Director at the office you have been dealing with. You can do so either by visiting
the CSA website (as above) or by writing. The reply to your letter at Stage 2 will tell you who to
contact.
Stage 4 - if the Area Director does not settle your complaint, you can write to the Chief Executive
of the CSA by visiting the CSA website (as above) or by writing to: The Office of the Chief
Executive, Quay House, The Waterfront, Brierley Hill, West Midlands, DY5 1XZ. The Chief Executive, or someone on his behalf, will look into complaints not resolved by the Complaint
Resolution Team or the Area Director.
Stage 5 - if, after receiving a response from the Chief Executive (or someone acting for him), youFinal Stage: Investigation by the Parliamentary Ombudsman (see 3. above).
still feel that the CSA has not dealt with your complaint properly, you can write to the
Independent Case Examiner, an independent organisation that offers a free and impartial service.
You must contact them within six months of receiving a final reply about your complaint from the
Chief Executive of the CSA. You can find out more about the Independent Case Examiner by
visiting their website at: www.ind-case-exam.org.uk, or by calling on 0845 606 0777.
Now on the grounds that my last letter to the CSA sent recorded and copied to my MP received a reply from my MP on the 5th March. I reckon they are running out of time to respond.
