You may have a local LETS scheme that may be able to help you complete the work in exchange for tokens that you would have to earn by providing a service to someone else on the scheme. I was also going to suggest LETS, or a buddy system. If you've got friends who are better at DIY than you are, would they be willing to give you a hand with any jobs, with you acting as 'builder's mate'?
