JSA and the 16 hour rule.

Options
I may (possibley) be made redundant in the near future, and would like a couple of questions answered.

1. Do hours worked on Sat/Sun count towards the 16 hours max. rule?
2. If I work 16 hours per week, will I still get my council Tax paid.

It's been 16 years since I last claimed JSA, so it is all new to me.

Yes Saturday and Sunday work does count, would be pointless if it didn't.

You will get your council tax/housing benefit based on your income. If it's too high it will be a reduced rate
  • As above - The rule is 16 hours in the week, i.e. from one signing day to the next, if you work 16 hours or more your claim is closed. Any work under 16 hours you must declare when you sign on and complete a B7.

Council Tax and Housing Benefit is purely means tested, so you will need to liaise with your local authority in that regard.

That's worth knowing. In the past, St/Sun didn't count, so in effect it was possable to work 24 hours over the weekend, then a further a6 during the week. All without loosing your benefits.

    Another question.
If my spouse gets a job, what affect will it have on the Council Tax benefits etc.

As somemone else said, it is means tested so it would depend on the income you were both receiving
  • JSA is now a 7 day benefit.
