'Cut price plastic personal loan' typical/max credit?

Hi,
I have just read the article on 'Cut price plastic personal loans' and am considering exploring this route to obtain a cheaper loan for a car. I have searched for threads covering this but have not as yet found anything relevent to my query.
My question is, of the people that have used this method (using IF and egg money to do a low bablance transfer) what is the typical/max credit limit that people have managed to obtain from both IF and egg? I am working on needing around £9K and wondered if I was being a little wishful in my thinking that this would be the best way to obtain it. I am pretty sure I have a sound credit rating as I have never had any problems with this before but am reluctant to go through the whole appyling and seeing how much i get as I do not want to damage by rating by making too many exploratary applications.
I realise that you can not give accurate figures etc of what I can expect as it is based on my personal credit ratings but a couple rough precedents would help me greatly.
