Capquest threat - help!

arrived home y.day to find Capquest had sent me a letter basically stating that on 23 July 2008 (!) they had sent me a Notice of Statutory Demand about an old debt of mine that had been passed to them. I ignored it after reading on this site that they often do this to frighten people (I should add that i had been paying htis debt, then got into difficulties and stopped paying. when it passed to Capquest they refused my offer of payment which i could afford at the time). Anyway since that time i have not heard one word from Capquest until yesterday's letter stating that as i had not replied to their Stat Demand that if i didn't do so now they would petition me for bankruptcy. Can they do this, there isn't a CCJ or anything against me on this debt. Or shall i ring them and make them another offer or what? Any advice greatly appreciated.
please, only helpful replies, i really don't need any moral lectures - again thanks very much.

Hi
we had dealings with crapquest and to be honest found them approachable.
2 yrs is a long time and peeps circumstances change so you may find that they will listen to you now.please try to write to them if you can with a proposal
better to write than ring as this only confirms your number.
hope this helps

but do u think they will do as they threaten? As stated i don't have a CCJ against me on this debt. Also the amount they have stated i owe is more than was stated on an experian credit file report i have from October 09.

:)This situation happened to us with someome else they did take us to court.
The first thing i would do is write to them after all if its in writing you can use it as proof that you have not ignored the problem.
I am not am expert and can ony advise from past experience.
Hang on in there.Communication is key.:)form filler extrordinaire0 -
it costs them so much to make you bankrupt, so has to be a large sum owed0
