  • Hi determined new ms

Hubby doesnt want to move bank accounts as we just moved this year before the wedding and have credit cards, loan and overdraft facilities with Halifax.

Altho A&L give you an interest free overdraft have been with most banks and am under the illusion one is no better than the other.

If we change our mind however i will let you know thanks.

Also I have just done another snowball but didnt include the consolidation loan as you cant overpay on this it runs with mortgage but think in a few years we could consolidate it into our mortgage and its £100 a month so when have taken that out of consideration.

Says we will be debt free in 36 months when I dont take into account the mortgage loan
    Total Debts £28,590 (roughly)
Overdraft 1200, DP Card £140.00 Halifax Card £3000 Hal Card £3740 Hal Loan - £7,500 Coventry mortgage loan £13000

    Hi Mrs B,

My top tips are on my entry in the DF roll of honour - take a look at that thread, lots of good tips. My tips were mainly about paying more than the minimum - even when I wasn't paying as much as I could (not really got a true lightbulb moment :o), every month I overpaid reduced my debt in real terms. My OH and I also made a decision to live within our means and live without things in order to clear our debts (we had one proper holiday - a weekend city break - which his parents gave us a few years ago. We've been together over 13 yrs!). We do go camping and go see friends etc, but no expensive holls. We also did things like saved up to buy our cars in cash - so drive cars we can afford rather than taking out more credit.

It has also been really helpful that as our wages have increased we've kept a more modest lifestyle enabling us to increase debt payments and have decided not to change this lifestyle much. Now I'm working on reducing my grocery spends and getting into mortgage overpayments.

Good luck with your journey. I spent years clearing my debt but comforted myself that every month I paid more than minimum payments was closer to being debt free. I paid one CC off for over 5yrs, but I got there (and if I had known about BTs etc it would have been faster  :o)
Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.
