Welcome silentlucidity! Others will be along soon to give you advice but I believe people like CCCS recommend you open a simple bank account with another company whom you don't have debts with. But as I say others with more experience will clarify this for you.

Yes - this is the best thing to do. Lloyds are a nightmare with taking people's entire wages to pay towards debts so its best to get out of there asap. Check also if your new bank is affiliated with anybody else eg Halifax & Bank of Scotland are both part of HBOS so if you have a debt with one they will take money from an account held with the other to pay that debt. Likewise with Natwest and Royal Bank of Scotland.0 -
As above, but there's no need to get only a basic account. Any account with any institution not linked to any of your debts is fine.Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
Debt free 21st Oct 2011.
All thanks to :money:0 -
Due to Barclayscum, taking out £400 out of my a/c to pay towards my debt with them and leaving me unable to pay my rent I moved my account.
I can recommend First Direct, they were great and dealt with everything for me, they have internet banking and when you call them you speak to a real person. Also if you open an account now you get £50!
I am in direstraights but they let me open an account with them, it didn't take long at all and they were great.
