CCJ from a company which has gone bust affecting credit record

I finanally managed to get a credit report from equifax ( long story but I had a two month gap where I didn't have paperwork to prove where I was ) but thats been sorted
Anyway I have two CCJ's .
Number one is dated 2005 and for £400 I have paid this a year ago as it was a water company debt so will just apply to have it marked satisfied - How long will that take by the way ???
However the second is for £4000 and is dated 2006.
I know exactly what it is and its a debt against future rent for a pub tenancy I had in 2003 as I left the tenancy early as I wasn't happy with the pub letting companys support and from day one disputed the rent for the future as the pub closed down the day I left and they never found another tenant willing to take its problems on . They sent one letter chasing the debt in 2004 , I wrote back informing them of my take on the situation and I never heard from them again , no letter saying they were taking it to court... nothing.
The problem is the company no longer exists ... it went bust in 2007 so I can't even discuss it with them
Is there any way I can take steps to get this removed or something noted by it or have I no choice but to wait until 2012 when it will just be removed after the 6 years
I am planning to move house in May and wanted to use a letting agent but I assume the second CCJ is going to stop me doing this
Is there any point in discussing the circumstances with the letting agant and showing them my copy of the report and saying what happened or is this just flogging a dead horse.
I don't want to pay checking fees just for someone to turn me down
I've looked at private landlords , but there aren't any properties which are what I need and I've just been stung very badly by a shameless private landlord hence the move so I don't know if I dare rent without agency protection
Any help / thoughts /advice folks

I think it might be worthwhile contacting the court that ordered the CCJ and asking for their advice.
Did you know you had the CCJ? Did you file any defence at the time?
I think letting agents usally just pays another firm to undertake the credit references so I would imagine that talking to them will not have much effect (I'm not certain though).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
NO I never rec'd any papers through which I would assume would be standard although obviously I can't prove I didn't receive and there is no company still trading to prove they did
I'll call the court on Monday and see what they think
Looks like I might be stuck with private Landlords for 2 years. EEEK0
