Hi everyone
Im going to take out a DMP but am unsure who to go with, and would be greatul for any help or suggestions. I have spoken to a someone at CCCS but only looked on the payplan website. As its such a big step to take i want to make sure i make the right decision.

I've been on a dmp with CCCS for 2 years and more than happy with them.
I may get slated for this but I am not a big fan of Payplan as they tried to "sell" me an IVA when i knew it wasn't suitable for me and got a bit narky when I wouldn't take up their "kind" help.
2 years on, I've made serious headway into my debt on my dmp by reducing the original term from 9 years to 3.5 years as it currently stands. For months PP tried to push me down the IVA route.
Obviously, this is just my opinion!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 2014

Hi,
I think you will get votes for both........They are both free. We are with Payplan and have been for over 2 years, and they have been brilliant.

As Elsie52 says, you'll get votes for/against both.
I can't comment on Payplan as I didn't approach them or use their web site.
I've had my DMP with the CCCS for over two years now and it's been brilliant. The first couple of months or so are a bit grim while it all settles down (but this will happen whomever you go with) but don't hear a thing from creditors now.
The CCCS has an online debt remedy where you can enter all your income and expenditure details - it's really detailed so it means you can include stuff that's easy to forget. For example, you're allowed a small amount for newspapers and magazines.
If Payplan has something similar, it might be worth comparing the two to see which works best for you.
Good luck - it was certainly the best thing I did!Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.
Dealt with my debt through a Step Change (CCCS) DMP.

Well CCCS are officially recommended on MSE but Payplan are not (primarily because Payplan are not a charity).
You will find mostly good reports and a few not so for both. From what I have seen recently there seem to be a few more unsatisfied customers at Payplan, either not pleased with the service or not at them trying to sell you additional products (insurance etc).
Another thing you may want to take into consideration is that I believe the two treat certain 'dla type' benefits differently in terms of including them in calculating disposable income, if that is something relevant to you you might want to seek advice from both.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi Chocolates, I'm with the CCCS and completely endorse what Deep in Debt has said. One telephone call enquiry with payplan and they were talking of an IVA, whereas the CCCS have been so understanding and supportive. :j0

We were never offered an IVA or anything else except DMP, by Payplan and we owed £74k.!! We have been offered insurance products and have taken them up on contents insurance, which was cheaper than I could get anywhere else, and believe me I searched everywhere, as I always do. On other occasions when we have been offered additional help we have declined and that has been the end of it....no pressure. Perhaps things have changed! But we have been more than satisfied.

Hi Chocolates
Another difference between the two, which might be relevant if available income is very tight, is that CCCS have a lower minimum in most cases - I believe it is £5 per creditor per month.
