Cancelling card - rate frozen?

Have posted this on the CC forum too (and I'm ready for the mud slinging!:rotfl:)
I've just had a letter from Egg to say that they're putting my interest rate up from 16.9% to 21.9% in April... I have a balance of just over £3k on there.
Am I right in thinking that I can cancel the account and they will freeze the current rate? I am paying this off as quickly as possible btw!
Also, if I get a BT from another card, can I use this to clear the Egg account even if it is closed?
Thanks
Sx

Hi, yes my OH has just had the same letter so he called them to kick off and they froze the interest at what it was but told him he could no longer use the card. He is currently looking for a 0% CC that he can transfer his balance from his Egg card to.0

Hi. Yes you can do this. In fact the email from egg should give you opt out instructions I think (towards the bottom of the email), you need to reply within 30days I think.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
