Equifax Alert - Cabot Default

Hi,
Just received an email from equifax to say a change has occured on my credit report.
When i logged in i could see that cabot were the second creditor on my list with a default registered from 2008, i think it's in place of where the capital one details were.
I checked my file last week and where it shows how many accounts and how many defaults it said 1 account and 1 default at current address.
Now it shows 2 account and 2 defaults at current address??
Cabot have recently took over this account and i have wrote to them as they didn't have an upto date address, is this why i now have 2 at current address because of the address change?
Thanks if you can help!

Just checked after writing this and this default was in addition to the ones i had last time i check but is registered from a few years ago before cabot took over and the default is in their name???
(I have started my cca process i'll start a new thread regarding them - is this correct?)

When a DCA takes over the default date has to say at the original date. So normally (barring address issues) you would have had a capital one account showing with a default in say Jun 2008, and when the debt is sold this disappears and is replaced with a cabot account with the default also Jun 2008.
When you say you have 2 defaults do you mean the capital one is also still showing or do you have another unrelated default?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
There's a box at the top that states account and defaults at cuurent and previous addresses, this is what mine looks like now:
CurrentPreviousNumber of Accounts26Number of Defaults24
and this is what it looked like a few weeks ago:
CurrentPreviousNumber of Accounts16Number of Defaults14
The only thing i have done is contact cabot re change of address - the capital one debt was not on there as a load of my info was removed a short while ago (i think this was because of the time it had been on there).
I am in the process of doing cca requests and have been in contact with cabot and received a reply to say my account was on hold for the moment while they get the required info together - i'm confused as the last update from them to my credit file was made 09/03/2010 and my account as far as they are concerned is in dispute???

sorry that should read:
credit report looks like now
no of account
current 2
previous 6
no of defaults
current 2
previous 4
credit report a few weeks ago
no of account
current 1
previous 6
no of defaults
current 1
previous 4

Ah so if the capital one debt was not on equifax then cabot can still add it on, and yes the change of address may be what triggered it to appear.
Does it sound right that you would have defaulted whenever in 2008 the default is listed?
It could even be that capital one only reported to experian whereas cabot use equifax maybe.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I wish i could remember that back, my life was in so much turmoil at the time.
I have wrote to them re the cca request and not received a reply other than account on hold they'll be in touch (wrote 13/02/2010).
I feel so betrayed!!! i am trying to put my affairs in order and ensure they can contact me and they do something like this.
Can they register this info when in dispute??
Also is it recommended that i start my own thread re my cca progress? how should i start it?
Thanks0 -
regarding the CCAs either start a new thread or just ask Niddy questions on this thread - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2305463
I suspect that they can add that info as it arguably should have always been there since capital one defaulted you, it is probably done automatically when they take over the account.
Of course if they cannot provide proof that a default notice was sent then you'll be telling them to remove it. Did you send the CCA that also asks for proof of default? (i think there is a template that does both?)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
No it just asked for cca but i thought for the creditors where a default had been registered i'd deal with that when they either do/don't provide me with the requested info.
If they do then i'll send the default letter if they don't give me required info i'll tell them to remove it.
Good/ bad idea?0 -
Sounds good idea to me (but talk to niddy -'never in doubt' - with whatever they come back with)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
