Hi
Like many others, I have been lurking for a while but I finally decided to contact the CCCS. I have just under £9k of debt, majority of which is CC's/catalogues (which feel like they are never going to go down!).
After completing the questionnaire thing on screen, it says that my montly payment would be £388 and that I could (depending on the companies and interest) be debt free in 1 year and 10 months.
Just wanted to know what your experiences were with trying to get the interest stopped. I owe to the following companies, and would be grateful if anyone could advise me if they actually stopped/froze the interest or if you had a bit of a fight with this:
Halifax (overdraft and 2 CC's)
Abbey (loan and 1 CC)
Cap One
Additions/Very
Oli Catalogue
Next
(don't think I have forgot any, but will update if I did)
Thanks
GS

Hi
Well done for contacting CCCS, I wish I would of done the same much sooner than I did.
Anyway Halifax did stop the interest for me but have since re started it, Cap One stopped interest straight away and have been very good as have Next.

Girlyshopper, less than two years is very good to clear your debts, and definitely something to look forward to.
A word of caution though - Oli are likely to be a nightmare. I've been in a fight with their group since Sept - they will deny ever receiving any paperwork from the CCCS - I'm told a common excuse so companies can go ahead and apply charges to your account - which is exactly what they've done at £36 a month
Send everything to them by recorded delivery and print off their signed receipt from Royal Mail's website. I've kept all mine as evidence and have now passed it on to the Financial Ombudsman.
No experience with your others, but good luck. x0 -
One thing I would advise you to do is open a new bank account away from Halifax if you havent already done so & that way they are just another creditor.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. Next were the first to accept my dmp. I've since paid them off - they were only a small one anyway. Cap One did eventually but every so often keep charging interest but when I write to them and plead, they stop it again for a few months and then we start again!
Abbey were good with me too and I owed them quite a lot.
As beanielou says, open another bank account so that Halifax or anyone associated with them, can't just help themselves to your money.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Hi all
Thank you to all that have replied. I feel a little more confident for finally taking the plunge, although I regret not contacting CCCS sooner. Like so many I thought I had it under control.
I do already have another bank account, but no doubt Halifax will be constantly calling at some point! Good job they don't have an upto date phone number!:rotfl:
Just waiting for my pack to come through and will be good to see the light at the end of the tunnel and not have my money eaten up by debt repayments every month.

You've done the right thing. I'm with CCCS and have been for the last 2 years. It was a bit !!!! at first but you just need to ride the storm for a while. It does get better, honest! I've not had a phone call from a creditor since October 2008, just get letters from them instead which promptly get filed in the shredding bin! I do have a caller display phone so they could have called - I just don't answer the phone unless I know the number.
Like you, wish I'd contacted them sooner and I'd be nearly debt free now but we live and learn I guess.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Hello!
Capital One accepted by DMP pretty quickly, freezing interest. Apartment from monthly statements, I've not heard anything from them since the beginning - and that was a couple of years ago.
Good luck!Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.
Dealt with my debt through a Step Change (CCCS) DMP.
