Debt Collection Agency Letters - No-one known at this address!

We have received one or two letters from Phillips Debt Collection agency over the past week, and this morning received one stating a sum of £480-something was owed and bailiffs will be soon arriving at our doorstep. One slight problem, the woman who it's addressed to does not live at this address. We have asked our local postie if he recognises the surname but to no joy.

My Dad rung the Agency a few days ago, was on hold for 40 minutes and had a rant down the phone, the unhelpful gentleman at the end of it stated that they would send out a letter and information pack within the coming days but we have not received anything.

What to do? Who to speak to? Where to go?

    Hi Nathan

I would return the letters with 'return to sender not known at this address' across the paperwork. In future do not open any post addressed to this person and simply return all letters unopened.

If baliffs or debt collectors turn up simply inform them that you have never heard of the person they are looking for and that they do not live at your address. It might be useful to have some paperwork to hand that would show your family live there (tenancy agreement?).

Have your family lived at the house a long while?

I wouldn't waste time and money by phoning any debt agency.
