Cancelling Northern Rock PPI??

Hi
Firstly I have studied many pages of this forum and cannot find the answer to my question.
My partner has a Northern Rock personal loan and at the time she took out their payment protection insurance which in hind sight appears to be very expensive in comparison to other companies who provide it as a product of its own. At the time I dont think she was made aware of the cooling off period but can't be certain.
If she wishes to cancel the PPI now: -
a) Would she be entitled to a refund of any amount? (No claims made)
b) How can this be cancelled?
c) Can PPI just be cancelled or does the loan need to be re arranged, if so, does this mean a credit search?
I hope this post makes sense, if not let me know, I appreciate any help given as the loan period is over 10 years and therefore the PPI on a large loan is thousands of pounds which could be better spent on a separate policy.
Thanks

Ermmm....I don't want to sound facetious here or anything, but have you tried phoning them and saying "I'd like to cancel my PPI please"?
Obviously, they'll try to convince you that the world will implode if you don't have it - just tell them it's covered separately and you're paying twice for the same thing or some such malarky.
I don't see how they can refuse.....If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I just wanted to be sure whether they would accept this or not and what was the correct answer we should get prior to phoning them and getting fobbed off with some untruths.
Knowledge is power and I wanted to have that prior to ringing.
I was sure I had seen a thread about cancelling northern rock ppi previously but couldn't find it today.0 -
it can depend on if the ppi was taken pre regulation or not -
she can cancel - but would need to ask them what their procedure is with regard to refunds and if needs to be rearranged ect
ie they may say she'd have to put it in writing beyond the cancellation period0
