Has anyone been on the Castlehill Road recently? It runs between Massey Avenue and The Upper N'ards Rd.
They(roads service) have painted some areas of the road witha red surface.I was wondering if they are going to putting speeds bumps on top (probs not as it is a bus route) or some kind of speed "trap" or just paint SCHOOL on in white some time soon? It is near to where I think there is an entrance into Campbell College.
I am just curious, not very MSE I know but it could be if the info stops me getting a speeding ticket.! ( said tongue in cheek, I do know the way to avoid them is not the break the limit!!!)

From what I can gather these are 'gateway areas' which show a transition between different areas of carriageway dependent on the locale.
They are used for school ahead warnings, but also used as a plain area when travelling from e.g. a 40mph area into a developed 30mph area.
I suspect that the ones on Castlehill are just for effect, as both the Newtownards Roads and Massey Avenue at the other end are both 30mph zones anyway. Probaly because it's quite built up, and as you say it may possibly have an entrance to Campbell College.
Got that from browsing THIS DRD publication.
I wonder if there is a little underspend in the budget? It's coming mighty close to the end of the financial year.;)0 -
Right, Thank you bingo, Maybe they are planning on the dropping the speed limit to 20 in this zone then. Does that ring a very distant bell for anyone else? Speed restrictions around schools?
Good point about financial end of year too!
I browsed that doc you linked to and think it is for School Ahead writing for " enhanced safety"Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
Speed bumps being installed whilst neighbouring roads are falling apart after the ice. Everyone knows that roads are a mess after a cold winter, why are they wasting their time slowing us down when we have to sweve to avoid upside down speed bumps already -fix them!0
