I have seen on here people suggesting to others to get there council tax paid over 12 months instead of 10. I was just wondering how i would go about doing this?
Thanks

    Hi Hetty

Most councils will agree to it if you just phone up and explain you are having problems financially and it will help with your budgeting, some agree straight away others might need a bit of persuasion.
My local council actually put you on to 12 months if you ever have a DD bounce.

Now is an ideal time to ask, before they start taking next years payments.

Its at the councils discretion(under schedule 1a of the Council tax(administration and enforcement) regs 1992.

The only payments they have to offer is the standard April to January but most will allow 12 months if asked as a discretionary payment arrangement.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
