Just like all the rest of you I was passed to MW ON 7TH jULY and offered a DMP they took all my card detais for reference then took £3600 out of my credit card and told me the PMP plan was £235pm starting on 30th september. I have sent a recorded delivery letter cancelling the agreement as I am within 14 days cooling of period. From reading what everybody did should a cancel my cards and report them as stolen and is it worth while trying to phone them?
I was then passed to fight my claim and £4000 taken out of credit cards. Again have sent recorded letter cancelling agreement. What can I do. Will credit charge cash back work? Has anybody tried this route? Help me as I am going to loose every thing including my wife

First off, haven't been on for a while so apolgies for not getting back to people sooner.

Second, not going to beat around the bush, you got yourself into a terrible situation there! Ring your credit card company and explain exactly what happened and hopefully they may be able to help you out with the 2 sums that were taken out.

Did you give any bank details to them? If so, contact your bank and let them know too.

Most imortantly, learn from this and don't look for short term solutions as it only makes things worse in the long run.

Have you made any contact with Money Worries? I am in the same position as yourself. Got into a big mess with these people. Unauthorised debiting of £2276 from credit cards at the end of June 2010.

Cancelled under article 1.4 of their T&Cs, also sent complaint via recorded delivery and contacted Ombudsman. Money Worries then sent me a letter on 30th June 2010 stating it would be sorted in 8 weeks. They have til 25th August 2010.

Was contacted on 30th July and told they would send me a letter about a refund and refund would be effected in 21 days ie TODAY! Well...no letter arrived and if no refund appears today, I'll be contacting the Ombudsman who can now step in as they have had their 8 weeks.

Hope all is ok between you and your wife. My husband went beserk too .....! If you haven't already done so, contact the Ombusdman, they immediately sent Money Worries a letter for me to say I had a complaint.

I'll let you know my progress getting a refund.

Good luck to you all but could you please start new threads when bringing forward a new instance of Moneyworries taking money. A lot of site members don't read old threads so you'll get a better responce with a new thread.

  • Hi to all of you, I am just wondering how you all got on claiming back refunds. I had a year long battle with Moneyworries to claim back my £350 initial payment after I was duped last January.

Please don't give up, I used trading standards which they ignored and finqlly the Finincial Ombudsman before they finally paid me with a cheque.

I am now with the CCCS and it's the best desicion I have ever made, if anyone wants any help or advice please fell free to email me. Keep a note of all correspondence including all letters, emails, faxes and telephone calls that you make as this was their downfall with me in the end.

    Take care,

Lessons learned and facing the struggle have made my life better than I ever thought it could be. Thank you Stepchange and DFW forum

  • I'll let you know my progress getting a refund.

Hooray!!! Thanks to Financial Ombudsman got full refund

If anyone is seeking a refund, contact ombudsman, Money Worries basically ignored any letters I sent them and only responded at each stage of the complaints procedure when the ombudsman prompted them to do so.

I have a feeling they are swamped with refund requests and basically are "fighting fires"!!! only really dealing with those where pressure from authorities are on them.

It took 13 weeks from when I contacted the FOS to get a refund.
  • I have been involved with money worries also . I have paid them for 5 months from April 2010 until August . They charged me £ 375.00 in this time . I tried ringing on various occasions to query when I noticed some discrepancies on my statement but to no avail . I have now cancelled the agreement by phone . Closed the a/c they were taking the monthly fee from .
I know i am out of the 14 day cancellation .
Can I claim back any of the fees ?
