What to wear in Bangkok

Options
I didn't know whether to put this in the Fashion and Beauty or the travel section but as it isprimarily a fashion question I thought I would put it here (feel free to move it though!).

I am going to Bangkok in a week on a 9 day trip, 3 days of which are a work conference, The 3 days prior to the conference are free time (ish) but will be spent with my work collegues and the 3 days after are free time and will be spent with only two work collegues, one of whom is a fvery good friend so I consider this later bit to be 'My' time whist I am over there.

My main problem is I have no idea what clothes to take with my, my boss has made it clear that she considers it to be rude for us to be showing too much skin (i.e. she said we shluld have our arms and shoulders covered all the time) etc but to be honest I was planning on living in vests as the weather will be 35 degrees! Happy to be covered up while I am working as the venue is air conditioned but to be honest the rest of the time I don't think I should have to wear what my boss tells me!

Also I have never been to anywhere this hot before so really stuck and would really appreciate any advice from anyone. I am 28 years old if that helps!!

Thanks

Spud xx

I agree with your boss, it is expected that shoulders are covered and skirts shouldn't be too short.
What about a floaty kaftan/tunic type thing. Choose light breathable fabrics if you can. The heat out there is dryer than here if that makes sense so you don't get as sweaty as you'd expect.
If you are going to the Palace/temples etc you'd definitly be expected to cover up very well.
    Have a good trip

As far as I'm aware there are no rules on what you should wear in Bangkok ie, you're not likely to offend the locals by wearing shorts and a vest-top.

Obviously there may be dress codes in some hotels and almost certainly you would have to cover up if visiting temples etc but otherwise wear what makes you comfortable in the heat, but don't forget to use the suncream and most importantly, have a good time :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I was going to reply the other day but forgot to, i lived there for a couple of years, and as above there are no rules, it is a major captial city with people from all over the world, i have seen everything there and a lot of strange things aswell.
I would not take too many clothes, they are so cheap there that you could buy most of what you need there.

Avoid wearing red or yellow, as these are the colours of the pro and anti Thaksin factions.

Hi i visited Thailand a couple of years ago and our guide told us that bare shoulders, cleavage and short skirts and shorts were a no no and offensive to locals particularly older people. The temples etc will always expect you to cover up - i bought a scarf to wear around my shoulders. Also the trousers that you can roll up into cropped trousers are handy as they get around the showing to much leg problem. I did see a lot of people (western) who did not follow this - but our guide said that locals would look down on them.
    hope this helps
ps - take loads of catologue/magazine pictures of clothes you like and get them made really cheaply out there, plus an extra bag as there is so much shopping - have a good trip.
