yes student loans and tutiton fee loans usually only take into account your parents income

If it is just the Tuition fee you are worried about I am pretty sure EVERYONE can get the student loan for that. Its part of a standard loan that all students can get. Almost everyone is also eligible for a normal student loan, its just the amount that varies depending on each persons background.

Have you been registered with living with your boyfriend for 4 years, or did you just move in with him but still registered with parents? Cos I was in a similar situation when I applied, and the loans company were only interested in where I had been registered as living-not that I had rented a place with my boyfriend for a year.

Also, get applying asap through UCAS. It gets really busy this time of year when the colleges are doing it too so the earlier the better. And the sooner yu can get confirmation then the sooner you can sort out student bank accounts etc.

I think you can start filling in application for student finance before confirmation-and then just go back and amend it once you have been accepted, so get doing that asap too. Then you will know what exactly you are entitled to.

If you have been out of education and supported yourself (work or benefits) you will be conidered an independent student, otherwise you will be assessed on your parents' income. Thereis a full package of fee loans, maintenance loans and means tested grants. Information on www.direct.gov.uk

If you are classed as an independent student then your credit rating is irrelevant to taking out student loans.

They are quite quick so I would say don't apply before the nov/dec of 2011. Anytime after you have started your last year of college in 2011 is fine though, just make sure you check the academic year on your application. But I would say the sooner the better really, then you have time to sort out any problems. if you do it later and there is problems then you might not get it at the start of uni due to delays in the application.
  • I'm in uni now in my first year, I had really bad credit and on a dmp but its not like a bank loan, its not credit checked.
if you have lived alone and supported yourself for 3 years or more and can prove it, you are classed as an independant student and your funds will be assessed on that
if you cant prove it, or havent supported yourself for that long, it will be a non income assessed loan. which is usually around 3000 in three installments
if you are on good terms with your parents etc, then base it on your parents income. when you apply online student finance will then contact your parents to get the documentation.
you cant base it on your boyfriends income unless you were married

tuition fees you would be able to get no problem

Oooo i should have no trouble then?? I cant actualy prove that ive been living independently as i said, i havent always been on the elector register. So in this case i should get a "non income assessed loan" which would be fine by me, and a huge weight lifted of my worried lil shoulders! As im not realy that pally with the parents! lol!

Just comform that for me please.... lol!

The tuition fee is paid by the loans company straight to your university. You do not get it at any point, they just give it to them and then you have to pay back when you leave and are earning 15k.
The other loan is the maintenance loan, which is money that you actually get to spend on stuff such as books and rent. This one you get in three installments, Sep Jan and April. If you qualify for the full loan then you will also get a grant (which you don't have to pay back) and possibly a bursary from your university. You have to pay this one back with the tuition fee loan.

If it is going off your parents income then find out what it is they earn a year and you can work out whether it is worth getting income assessed or the non income assessed.

When i was going through all this the cut off was 17k for single or 30k for couple (don't quote me). If your parent earns less than this it is worth getting the income assessed one. If your parent earns more than that you should go for the non income assessed one, as going for the income assessed if your parents are loaded means you might end up with even less than the non income assessed.
