Arghhh, what to do?

After looking for a job for quite some time since having my baby (well hes 2 now) I was offered a 6month full time contract, now as much as I want this job, the hours are not the best, yes I get to start at 10am, but I won't finish till 6.30pm (so not home till 7.15pm), the salary could be better and I know I am worth alot more, but had it been the hours were a bit better say 9.30-6 or 9-5.30 then this would be ok as I would spend less on childcare as I will have to also pay someone to collect baby from nursery which taxs credit wont cover unless registered and the people who can do it are not registered so this would have to be from my own pocket, and the main issue for me is working with another person, I have learned over the years that I am better off working alone, thats not to say I dont get on with people, but with what I do unless we are all working from the same page it usually causes tension so over the past 4 years I have actively been seeking jobs where I am alone and this works very well, so I am also worried that the other person will drive me batty, but on the other had I keep thinking its only 6 months and its a job!

Whats a girl to do? I need to let them know by midday today

you are only worth what you get offered was my first thought.

It all depends on whether you believe you can get the job you want quick but you sounds quite choosey so If it were me I would look at taking the 6 month job and carry on looking for your dream job.

A job on the CV looks better than nothing IMO

Alot of companies at the moment know they can get away with offering 3-4k less than they should because they are so many people out of work, for the standard they want, had this been 3 years ago I dont think they even try to offer the salary they have because nobody worth looking at would apply. It's not so much that I am choosy, there are just lots of other factors to consider, like the kids, childcare and such things, when I was told about the job the hours were fine 8.30-5, then I think the other person changed her mind but by this time I had already set up the interview so thought may as well go, if nothing else it will give me interview practice.

It would be better to take it and get 6 months experience, you could hold out for better hours or more money but they just seem to be excuses.

Its an employers market so the rates are going to be tighter...

Not sure how I am making excuses, although salary not ideal, its enough to keep me intrested in the job, if I have to then pay extra to someone on top of the already high nursery fees, then then it becomes a bit more of a problem and something I seriously have to consdier, as I mentioned had THEY not changed the original hours then the childcare problem would be less of an issue. Anyhoo, I told them from yesterday I had some reservations regarding the hours and when I sopke to them just now they said they will look into it, so hopefully the hours will go back to what I actually applied for.

What I forgot to add in original post is, although been looking for work for sometime, by that I mean a permanent one, I not long finished a 7 month maternity contract, so been totally out of the job market for 2 years

2 years is a long time to be out of the market, if you get the job I would seriously look at it because it effectively starts your 'abscense' clock again in terms of employment.

I didn't realise they had changed the original hours....this is their perogative obviously (unless you can prove they were discriminating against you for being a woman).
