Hi, sorry to hear about your health problems, I hope you don't make yourself more ill worrying about your future. Your years of service in order to calculate your pension should be enhanced. For example if you worked for 10 years this could be enhanced to 19 years. You should check with your personnel office. I wish you well for your future.

Some employers do this - very many more don't. There is nothing to say that an employer should or must enhance your years of service.

I also notice that neil is in a DC scheme, so "years" are irrelevant. His pension will be determined by the value of his DC pot and annuity rates.

Neil - can you give us a little more information about your situation? I assume you have not worked for a while due to illness. Is your illness likely to prevent you from ever working again? Have the company received medical reports from your GP and any consultants treating you? Have they sent you to see a company appointed medical adviser.

Please let us have more background information.

I am in work on light duties but the company has not got these duties after 4 weeks I have been with the company for 5 years and only have about 8-10 grand in my pot. My condition is getting worse and is getting very hard for me to drive as i have carpal tunnel radial tunnel and tennis elbow.

    Neil,

It's difficult for anyone to know how or what the most likely outcome will be with your pension - I would phone OPAS (the occupational pensions advisory service) and ask them if you could be referred to one of their volunteers - it's free service, they will get you to sign an authority letter to allow the company/pension scheme to answer any questions on your behalf - I'm sure this is a far better way for you to get the information you desire - I say this as there are so many different variables from what you are outlining in your posts and having someone who will ask the relevent questions for you and deal with you on a 1 to 1 basis is probably going to be far more productive for you.
