Hi, I am moving within the next two weeks and find the British Heart Foundation furniture shop is usually very good (they may have a store locator online) - there are always lots of sofas and white kitchen goods in there - check the quality before you buy them though!!

I also nabbed myself a solid Pine corner shelving unit off ebay for 99p yesterday - I am picking it up on Saturday, but have already paid by Paypal, as I would feel awkward giving the woman a pound for a solid pine piece of furniture in person!

With Paypal fees she would have got less than 80p. I think she might have like the £1 better... :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Back to the OP.

Buy second hand, scour the charity shops, seach ebay and Freecycle and ask you mates (and your parents mates) if they have anything they do not want.

Put some wanted ads up at work. We gave away a pine double bed recently as someone had put a Wanted ad on the website at work. The guy was getting divorced and the wife was keeping the home so he needed loads of stuff.

Slowly over time you will replace the items with new.

I moved into my first flat with just my bedroom funiture. When I asked my mates round I said, bring a deckchair or something to sit on as I have no seats.

Some of them came with nout and when they arrived looked at me and said "you have no seats". I said "yea, I told you to bring a chair". :)

I lived like this for quite a few months and it never did me any harm.

We often have lots of white goods, furniture, rugs, kitchen equipment, everything you can imagine, on our local Freecycle group. You can find your local one here: https://www.freecycle.org

If you want to buy something specific, using Freecycle can help get you kitted out and give you time to save up for anything special.

If you want new appliances check out costco if you are a member or can find someone who is, I recently got a tumble dryer £100 chaper than same model in JL who refused to price match. They also have furniture and lots of other things you might want for setting up home.

Really stupid question, is everything on freecycle free? I've tired looking through the entire website and can't find anything that will answer the question.

    Thanks

Yes, that's the point - you aren't allowed to charge for it (nor are you allowed to take it and sell it on). (Not being rude, the clue is in the name freecycle.)
Do not feed the trolls please.

Yes, everything on Freecycle is free and without strings.
