hi i'm new here so go easy one me :)

i was just wondering if anyone knew of any other energey suppliers in n.ireland we moved house 10months ago and went from our electric being £20 a week (£30 in winter) to being £105, which seemed like a huge leap but then last week we got our bill in and it was £480 for the quarter and that includes our discount for paying by direct debit,
so i was thinking of changing supplier but i can't find any other suppliers on NIE

welcome to the crappy world of Northern Ireland utilities.....No there aren't any other residential suppliers of electricity, allegedly the market will get opened up, but until then we're all saddled with being screwed over.......

£480 seems horrendous for a quarter though, are you running electric heaters in the new house? I'm in a 4 bed detached and last horrendous bill was £180 for the quarter

well we moved from a tiny 3 bed semi to, a lovely big 3 bed bungalow with seperate dining room and huge kitchen it's a good bit bigger than the last house se we did expect some increase but not that much

no were not running heaters but we have had the water heater on (however we do this in the summer aswell) as our heating doesn't heat our water enough to bath all 3 boys, but i think the main reason is our spare frisge freezer gave up the ghost so we got a new one, but as it was in the garage we left the old one plugged in, empty :( and already faulty so i do think this would have added a huge whack as we all know they use more elec empty, i was still very shocked

we paid them £100 and they up'd our dd to £130 a month til we have it paid off :( which imo is alot for elec

Are they charging for any back charges? For some reason NIE removed our direct debit, we didnt notice and we ended up a not-nice wee bill from them:(

So they increased the monthly rate that we paid when they got the dd set up again to cover it but i got a letter last week that they are decreasing the monthly dd, so i presume we have everything up-to-date so maybe you should get them to check again?

no they aren't we were on a meter before then i wanted to go back onto a meter but oh said no he said it was better this way as we kept running out before, we did owe them £40 from a few months before but thats on top of the £480, i hate oweing money but i don't have £400 lieing about

they only put our DD up when we phoned (mainly to check it was right) and we paid some off it, the woman said they were just gonna up the dd in april to cover it

since we got the bill i;ve banned all baths (even my 7month old is having a shower) and have completely stopped using the drier, thanksfully the weathers been nice
