Bank accounts

Hi there,
Please bear with me as i'm still relatively new to this........
I was wondering if any one could give me advice on this subject, to let you know my husband is a discharged bankrupt for over a year now and we are having a real problem opening up a basic bank account for him. He is working and really needs an account of his own, please any advice would be great......

He has to make it VERY clear he only wants a basic account so they do basic checks. Also if he has made a lot of applications in a short time this may be causing problems with the credit checks :)

Natwest basic account (Ihave one) will let you set up DD's and give you a debit card (solo) :)

    Thanks all,
We've only tried the halifax and said to them its just a basic account but they won't budge ,so we'll try some other ones. It's a bit of a nightmare though , a bit of a catch 22 situation as you're desperate to keep trying ,we weren't told about the problems of setting up another account when he was discharged , so beware..........

Has he tried a building society account? When I was going through my worst time with debt problems I opened an account with the Leeds and Holbeck just so I could pay my wages in and take them out as I needed. There was no cashpoint card but this helped me as I needed to just spend what I had planned for. Other building societies do give you a card though. I know they didn't credit check me for the account I got as they gave me my passbook straight away.
