Magimix spares - prices a joke

I have a Magimix 4100 - I think it was a wedding present because I certainly never researched this purchase. Anyhow, the main plastic bowl - a cheap piece of plastic that is impossible to clean - cracked after very little use and recently began to leak. I threw it out.

Expecting to be ripped off, I had a look at the Magimix web site to get a price that I thought I might be able to beat by going elsewhere. Nothing had prepared me for the complete absurdity of Magimix's pricing.

Magimix want 33 quid for a bowl and - wait for it - a further 19 for the lid of that bowl. If you buy both as a package, they will discount it to 49.98! Delivery is on top of that.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the lid of my cracked bowl but I had naively assumed that replacement bowls would be sold with lids so I had chucked out the lid along with my old bowl.

Bear in mind that you can buy the entire system, or its successor the 4200, for 190 pounds, even in chrome, less in white plastic.

Oh, and of course nobody else sells these parts for anything less than Magimix, give or take a pound.

Is this not a complete and utter joke? 20 quid for a new bowl with a lid would have been an acceptable class of rip-off; this is just ridiculous and I refuse to pay. I would rather sell the machine for spare parts - surely worth more as second-hand spares than brand new - and give my custom to another company.

Unfortunately, I suspect Magimix is not the only rip-off food processor manufacturer. Anyone know a more reasonable company with adequate food processors?

Sorry for ranting but this just made me very angry.

ive had my magimix for years and its fine - if its quite new i would have emailed them as they are very good at replacing things for free but obviously because you have thrown it away you can't do that. have you searched on ebay?

Yes, I've tried ebay: if anything, more expensive.
  • I agree with you, I have a Magimix ( 5100 I think) that I have had for years but it has not been heavily used. My bowl/lid is not in great shape and I expect it to break at some point in the neat future. Having read a lot of reviews about these machines it seems the bowl breaking is a very common thing. When I bought my Magimix - in the days before I had internet access - I thought I was buying a top quality machine that would give years of reliable service. Like you I don`t know if I would pay for a new bowl, buy a new Magimix so that I could continue to use the disks ( assuming they would be compatible) or whether to go for another brand completely.

You could probably pick up a reasonable brand new food processor from Argos or Amazon for similar cost of the new Magimix bowl/lid.

    I agree with you,
Thank you, that makes me feel a bit better.:) Do you think there are intellectual property laws that would prevent me from becoming a Magimix - sorry, food processor - replacement bowl manufacturer?
