Hello,
My sister recommend we go and see someone at 'Your Move' as they look at the whole of the market. Is this correct?
I am in the process of trying to find a whole of market fee free broker, but my sister says they are pretty good, and she works for halifax bank.
Does anyone else have any recommendations for them, as there is one close by to where we live..
I understand they will probably charge a fee to arrange a mortgage for you, but once they tell us which the best deal would be for us, we aren't obliged to use them are we?
As in my sister was told by them that nationwide was best deal for them, so she just went down to nationwide herself etc..
Thanks

Doing what your sister did is not only immoral but stupid as well. If your broker is not charging fee's then why not place the business through them? For a start placing business through a broker means you have recourse for a mis-sale in future, whereas going direct you will not. The added bonus of using a broker is that they are likely to be much more experience to a bank advisor and are more accountable for what they sell. You would also have the benefit of getting impartial advice on life assurance and related products, rather than being pressure/convenience sold them by your bank!
Think twice before you do this. I think rightmoves advisors are panelled but I cold be wrong. I've looked on the site briefly and can find no reference. what you need to do is ring them up and ask canthey recommend a mortgage from any UK lender at this point in time. If they can't then they are not whole of market,

Oh sorry i should have said, the broker was going to charge them £499, it wasn't a fee free person!
Im sorry if that offended you, i am just new at all this and my sister is older and works for a bank so i thought she was talking sense...sorry again..
So 'your move' people aren't good?0 -
i mean..the person they saw at YOUR MOVE was going to charge them, thats why she didn't use them! Not a broker...
But she says they are good for advice but wasn't sure if they still charged a fee or not as this was a few years back.0 -
"Doing what your sister did is not only immoral but stupid as well."
I find that rather offensive Mama. Don't you think that that is a bit strong? Why is it immoral? Do enlighten me.

Brokers are in two moods right now, charge a fee or alternatively have to add on products on a mandatory basis, ie, life cover, accident sickness cover etc. We could not survive on the pittance paid by the vast majority of lenders - point 3% on an avergage HBOS product - yes -point three per cent and when you think how much they make it's stupid. Some Brokers simply Panel and may have 8 lenders 5 of which pay 1%. We are whole of market, no tie on's fee £499 only payable upon completion. If you don't get what you want - you'd better hope you want what you get

I do think it is highly and immoral and stupid CG, especially if the broker was fee's free. I didn't mean it to cause offense though, I am by nature a very direct and straight talking person. I had to go through a short period of charging fee's myself due to people going direct to lenders whilst I was fee free. I'm sick to death of hearing about people who do not trust brokers, but not amount of complaining I do will change the general publics opinion. if there are a load of cowboys out there I'm not one of them, and the general smear on brokers upsets me because I am probably one of the most honest and hard working people you could wish to meet.
Apologies to the OP, I didnt realise your rightmove advisor was charging a fee. If you have taken advice or plan to with the rightmove advisor, have the fee issue out with them at the start, ask them to drop the fee or you'll go somewhere fee's free. If they won't drop it then NEITHER of you have lost anything.I am a Mortgage Adviser

It sounds to me that the OP's sister was just advising her sister. I don't think that is stupid nor immoral. Just because you may not agree with the advice and nor do I. I don't think the advice had anything to do with the fees.

So you are saying what exactly? Thats its not immoral to take up a professionals time and expertise to take their advice and go off directly to a lender, leaving the professional out of pocket for their efforts?
And that its not stupid to take professional independent advice, underwhich they are covered for a mis-sale by going direct to the lender and losing any redress? (and doing a fact find twice?!)I am a Mortgage Adviser

I really wasn't asking anything about the fees or about what my sister did/does..I just wanted to know what peoples experience of 'YOUR MOVE' advisors were, and if they were whole of market or if they tried to sell you specific products of specific lenders?
Mortgage Mamma, i have absolutely no bad opinion of brokers, especially not bad and in fact i am searching for a good one like crazy! Ive had one recommendation, but he only does house visits and im not sure if im keen on that..
I wish i could find someone like you in real life believe me!0 -
This is real life. let me know where you live and I'll see if I can recommend someone reputable I know brokers scattered all over the country but mainly in the south. I don't know anything about your move brokers, but every broker is different on an individual level. So for example, a big firm such as london and country might have some excellent brokers with some bad ones hiding behind the companies good name.
I'm sure somewhere there will be a decent broker to help you out, but your best bet is to talk to a few on the phone first before you waste your time visiting them and see if you feel comfortable with them and have a good rapport.I am a Mortgage Adviser
