If you come into Troon there are loads of Castles and Rabbie burns stuff locally. There is a Burns heritage centre in Alloway (Ayr ) Or take a wee drive up the coast to largs.
Ayrs a good town for shopping and im sure you can find something on for entertainment in either Ayr of Kilmarnock which are all within driving/taxi.bus of each other.
It depends on what kind of things you like to visit.

As you are foot passengers arriving to Troon would be a good option, as there is a good bus service to Ayr, Kilmarnock, Glasgow etc and the train station isnt too far away - although a walk through the town to get to it. Troon has some great restaurants, particularly Scotts at the Harbour or Lido in the town, there is also a great fish and chip shop at the harbour called the "wee hurrie" where you can sit outside and (hopefully) see the seals in the harbour.

Ayr has lots of restaurants and is OK for shopping (much better than Kilmarnock and Troon), from here you can go to Alloway to see Rabbie Burns cottage which was taken over and restored by the National Trust last year, unfortunately the Burns Hertiage Centre is undergoing refurbishment and is closed at the moment. Glasgow is always a good option as the train service takes you into the centre, lots of museums etc here are free and very interesting, there is good shopping and lots of restaurants

Hope this is some help, pm me if you need any more info
    Waddle you do eh?
