Ears all unblocked now but in the evenings or after a loud noise I can hear like a swish swish swish sound in one of my ears that makes the sound as my heart is beating (if that makes any sense at all?)

Any ideas? Should I try the olive oil warmed poured into my ear? If so how much do i use?

I hope you get well soon!

My mum swears by Echinacea pills (Echinforce or something to that effect!) I think Boots sell it. I have a sore throat at the moment and am also trying this stuff out. Its only been a day though for me! Am hoping it improves!

If its a virus, then drink lots of fluids, helps your body expel the virus and keeps your skin looking good :) I'd also second the advice to up your fruit and vegetable intake. Taking vitamin pills is OK for short bursts but your gut may not like it and I think its been shown the body responds better to vitamins within real food rather then within pills. Plus its alot harder to accidentally overdose and end up spending hours on the loo!

I'd not mess with pouring things in your ears- get a medic to do that. It may be fine but I can just see it going horribly wrong! There are some candles called "Hops" candles which is a treatment which clears the ears, some health foods sell them (and I'm sure I remember seeing them in Boots/Superdrug at one point) but again sounds risky- make sure you have 4 pairs of hands and if possible visit a practitioner rather then going at it by yourself. I had a friend who had this done and she always rated it.

    Hope you get well soon!

Oh you poor thing ,you sound in a worse state than me lol .
I have been on IV nad oral antibiotics for a uterine infection and I feel like I am falling apart too (itching in places ,lip ulcers ,gooey eyes etc~)
The pharmacist recommended those pro biotic drinks which tbh I always think of as a bit of a gimmick but he was really singing their prises so as he has more medical training than me ,I am giving them a try :)
Also if you are off you pills now and your throat isn't too soar to stand it ( if its really soar try half a tablet) try those Berocca ,they really give you a boost :)

bubby, I had that heart beat in my ear. I was very worried as it had never happened before. When I saw the doctor she looked in with the torch thing and dismissed it as just cattarrh (sp?) so no treatment but I never had any problems. But I do have a little trouble with that ear while scuba diving so wonder if it is a bit bunged up.

If you re going to take probiotics ensure that it is in tablet form that is enteric coated. The problem with drinking the drinks is that the stomach acid destroys some and thiose that it doesn't are destroyed in the upper intestines. Even then there are some studies that say that probiotics introduced directly into the gut don't work. ( I don't feel the same about other functional foods like plant sterols)

I had a vet trying to give them to my cat and I told her no. Find a report form Food Standards Agency
http://www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2005/mar/probiotics. I have heard doctors, pharmacists and vets recommending probiotics, but I am sceptical, too as I have seen peer reviewed studies that say they don't work and they were made to withdraw some health claims form adverts recently if memory serves. Prebiotics however may be a different story as they are not aline, but merley provide your exisitng gut flora to thrive. I just can't see how a living organism can stand the digestive process, but I will reserve judgement and air on the side of scepticism for a bit longer.

Agree about heartbeat in the ear it is mucus, my daughterhad it recently and then her ears popped and the sound went! The swish swish is behind the drum and olive oil won't help. Hopi candles can be done by some beauticians, but I would worry something could go wrong!!

I find that after an illness say for example an ear infection every time I get a cold afterwards it seems to 'go' for my ears for quite soem time. Almost as if your resistance in that area is low.

My advice is to take a good multivit and mineral that has good bioavailabilty, eat a healthy diet, 3,3,5 etc., plenty of sleep and exercise and be kind to yourself.

Mind I don't believe in acupuncture and at my GP's one of the Dr's does it!!! although at the same practice one of the other Dr's looked at us gone out for our suggestion magnesium might help my DH - I bet their staff room is fun!

My friend has suffered on and off over the years with chest infections, one after the other. She's now taking a teaspoon of Active Manuka Honey a day and it's really helping with her general health. I'd read about this honey in a book (Imperfectly Natural Woman) which was extolling the health benefits. You can buy this in the supermarket or health food shops. The best stuff has the highest Active rating (so try and aim for 10 and above).

HTH and that you feel better soon.

  • Aloe Vera drinking gel is meant to be good natural pick-me-up remedy. It has lots of vitamins and is good for the digestion as well. A friend of mine has starting drinking it every day and she says her nails, skin and hair have never been so good and it is improving her overall well being, although she struggled to get used to the taste at first as its apparently quite bitter. You can get it from Holland and Barrett and probably other health food places, and also through distributors of Forever Living (they are quite expensive but I've been told its better quality).

Good luck and I hope that you feel better soon.

Well my earache is back in both ears:mad: this time with clear fluid rather than yellow. I think that my ears never really healed up from the last time and they have been itchy on and off ever since.

I have consulted NHS direct who advise to leave it a week before visiting the doctor but I am going to wait and see if it gets any worse.

I am going to use the olive oil and have hopi candles done afterwards to try and clear whatever is in there.

Give me childbirth over earache any day!!!:rotfl:
