hi everyone, the Weekly News is late delivery this week, have been to whs, all the papershops in my town this morning & been informed because of Easter it'll be late this afternoon or tomorrow morning, will post it as soon as i can get it

Hope it's OK that I ask this here. I have not seen it mentioned in any of the guides and was wondering what the general rule of thumb is on abbreviations. Can you be disqualified for writing Leics instead of Leicester or Ave instead of Avenue?

It sounds pedantic to me but I am new to this.
