So, if I've got this right we had a load of experts saying drastic cuts needed a while back, followed by another bunch of experts gathered by Darling to say 'not too soon' or you'll harm the recovery, and now some more experts here to say sooner rather than later is now the way to go...
Is it any wonder nobody seems to know whats going on??0 -

Not quite.
A group of experts said cut now.
A much bigger group of experts said don't cut now, wait until the recovery and growth is much stronger.
And then today a group of businessmen said "we'd like you to cut now so we don't have to pay higher taxes".Is it any wonder nobody seems to know whats going on??
The correct course of action is clear. Do whatever you need to do in order to spur growth, and then start to freeze/cut. But without growth, cuts become a death spiral for the economy.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

My guess (sorry absolute nailed on fact) would be that half the country reckon cut, and half reckon don't cut. Handily I think there is an election coming up.0

I do hope rewired that you have found it within yourself to take time out from your little game and give twenty of your hard earned?0

I don't see your name on the list yet, perhaps you need to learn how to connect with real people instead of playing a childish little stalking game.0

Perhaps...
two well known Conservative Party supporters (CBI , IoD) basically support the Conservative Party position while being pretty vague ..i.e. no specific numbers in the recommended cuts but just more, whatever that means. (well it seems the IoD was simply a pole from its members, no number for the cuts atall)
Oh and by the way there's an election coming soon........

It is no surprise that business people are saying get it over quick. Think about the situation the public sector employees are in. Darling is saying there will be big cuts coming, Torys saying big cuts coming and the party that actually wants to cut deepest and quickest is the Lib dems.
So your average public sector worker is sitting there thinking will I have a job in 3 months with the Torys or a year with Labour (They know the libs can not win). Do you think this environment is condusive to public sector effecieny, they will be just sitting there de motivated worrying about the future (even with their 2 year salary redundancy payments).
Any business knows that if you have to repeatedley lay of staff multiple times it is the death knell for the business because staff get more and more demoralised. In the unfortunate situation of having to mke cuts do it once get it over with and make sure the remaining staff know that they have a job for the long term because the cuts have been enough to see off even the worst of times.0
