Hi All

I am new to everything CSA so please bear with me.

Once the CSA have received an application what is the process please? I have been able to provide details of my ex's employment and of payments already received. What is the time frame - approximately?

Many thanks

but non resident parent (NRP) will accrue arrears from the date the paperwork is "officially" received by the CSA/CMEC

Is there any point in checking that the application has been received? The reason I ask is because I applied online and received no confirmation and I would hate to wait 20 weeks and then discover it was never received.

I`m stiiiiiiil waiting after nearly 2 1/2 years!

I have phoned numerous times, even made complaints and yet, still never received anything in the post!
I was supposed to be assigned a case worker...nope.....told it was at a different office.....told it was now clerical......told ex was denying he`s worked.....told ex has an outstanding payment due to be paid to his other ex.....the list is seriously endless. The "promises" I have been made by the CSA like so many others of you is sooooo dis -heartening. I`m even fooled by thinking that if I ask for the persons name and extension of who I have just shared my life story with, it will make a difference,but,.....nope!

I honestly wouldn`t mind but, I`m doing my best and working self-employed and it was actually my ex`s suggestion that I go to the CSA as he thought the £50 a month I was asking him for, which was for 2 children, was too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(He does work. He works full-time in a very good job!)

Dare I say it, but, I see now the CSA are supposed to be bringing in even more changes in April. (Yet more back-log on the cases they already have outstanding!!)

I apologise for the long reply but, after waiting this long and reading your post, I felt I needed to be honest.

I honestly do hope you hear from them sooner rather than later.

Ring up and apply over the phone. I applied on Feb 8th, lady said it would be 3-4 weeks before they made contact with the NRP.

I rang yesterday with a few queries and chap said he would pass it down to the other dept as no contact had been made yet and advised me to ring again Fri next week to check on the progress.

    Basically, just keep ringing them....

The arrears should only start from the date the NRP has been contacted at a confident address. This could be several weeks after the PWC has put in their first application for child maintenance.

CSA contacted NRP after I rang them on Saturday, so roughly 4 weeks after application on first contact.

    Thank you.

Just to clarify, I know where the ex lives and works and I cant see him denying working for a rather large international company which he holds quite a high position in. This will not come as a surprise to him because I think he knows he has been winging it a bit with me the last 2 years.

Are you saying I wont be able to chase for the previous 2 years when he made sporadic payments? Could I pursue these through a court?

    Thanks for your time.

I think if you go through the CSA they will only start the claim from when they make contact with the NRP.

Not sure if you could get any arrears through the courts, did you have a private agreement?

You will not be able to claim any arrears for any date before the CSA have first contacted the NRP at a confident address if this is a new case.

If a case has already been opened, even several years ago & never closed, then arrears may be payable.

I do not believe you can can chase arrears through a court unless he has defaulted on a court order to pay maintenance.

Once the CSA case starts, this will take precedance over the courts & they will be unlikely to take your case on.
