Apple computers will give discount on computer hardware, software and i-pods to students.... That includes me with my evening painting course!. They didn't ask for an NUS card or anything, they just asked what subject I studied and the name of the college. What's more my apple computer is the bee's knees it makes ibm compatible stuff look very lame, and as it run microsoft office (also available with a student discount - pc world didn't even ask what course!) I am at no disadvantage !

The big question is.... how much of a discount?0

I think the apple one is about £50.00 off a £700.00 laptop0

where do they give discounts? also any idea how much is the discount for the ipod?0

Depends on the product, an ipod gets about a twenty pound discount. There is no discount on the ipod shuffle. Ipod 20gb is £200.93 and 40gb is £275.95. Of course if you do actually go to university and buy from the apple site via your uni you'll get a bigger discount on the laptops and computers. You can also get discount in the apple stores and the apple resellers stores. Depends on whether they check or not. If you can prove that you are a student, you'll get a bigger discount in some places. I was buying an ibook and the guy said if I produced a letter from my uni I'd get the ibook without vat which makes it just under £600. The biggest discount I could get with apple made it £615.0

The Apple education store is accessed via the apple store at https://www.apple.com/uk - any teacher, lecturer or student qualifies and discount is between 5% and 7% on most items. I'm pretty certain that you can buy on behalf of a child at school too.
I'm told that if you order by phone you can often negotiate an even better discount.0 -
just to add that some of the Apple independent retailers also do Education discounts which might be better for you especially if they have a local branch.
Big question is though is the education discount big enough to risk a poorer level of service (eg John Lewis)0
