So, when you have paid your mortgage off...

I'm also a bit of a car nut and I've been itching to change my current car, but I intend to stick with my current car until we are MF. I would love a 911 turbo
Which Aston you thinking of going for? Being able to buy a supercar is the easy part, running it properly is the expensive bit!
Currently a DB7 Volante, although I suspect when I am MF a V8 Vantage will be at the right age/vintage/price point - I would never spend a fortune one one, probably ~£25k and it'd be a weekend car to run alongside a motorbike for commuting
.
BTW: I'm lucky enough to have been in a DB9 and 911 Turbo extensively (both owned by the same family member) and the 911 is an awesome machine, absolutely blew my socks off the first time I experienced 'pressing on'.Self confessed nerd when it comes to anything financial and/or numerical! :cool:0 -
Ours was paid off a few years ago, the mortgage money helped the children through uni and then went into my retire early and have fun fund, plus a few decent holidays over the years. It's good to have choices and being secure in your home is a very good feeling.0

I like that term 'FUN FUND' think i'm going to pinch that one! If all goes according to plan our mortgage will be paid off in the next 8-12months, before i'm 29!
I've driven a friends 911 a few times and each time I've got out I've been shaking, the noise, the turbo wallop, it's like a drug, I need it in my life! But me being me when the time comes i'll probably play it safe and buy something more sensible! Maybe a 335D and an exige for the weekend hmmmmmm
Joining a car club may be the best thing for me to do!0 -
Paying of the mortgage should be done as part of retirement planning
It reduces the demands on the unearned income(pension or returns on investments) that you need to remove the dependancy on earned income.
Nothing wrong with a bit of a splash but do work out how many extra years working these toys are costing.
Having said that there is a point where you can't leave the toys any longer might as well enjoy things when you can get the benifit.0 -
I think the extra money will go on
wine; women; and song.
Anything left over i'll just waste.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

As soon as it is gone I will retire, hopefully at 57 rather than 60. I'll be better off on my pension, or rather have more disposable income, than I do now. I wish that I had buckled down to paying off earlier so congratulations to all you young ones mortgage free is choices for life.0

Well i should be mortgage free in 3.5 years or so, but its only a flat and we have an 8 week old, and she is planning more, so i dare say i will be upgrading to a bigger house in the UK OR moving to Thailand where i will get a 3 bedroom detached house for the same money as i have in the flat just now.
My toy will be an ariel atom when i am finally clear of all debts0 -
and an exige for the weekend hmmmmmm
Do yourself a favour and if you want the true extreme weekend car.... get yourself an Atom. The MOST fun (from driving;)) you ever get on 4 wheels! My toy will be an ariel atom when i am finally clear of all debts
Someone has the right idea already! :T
(If people are wondering "what the hell is an Atom?", search for "top gear" and "Atom" for a great video)0 -
Once our mortgage was gone, then we could concentrate more on the pension side of things and saving.......0

I always fancied a 340R, but reading up on them and things like battery changes involving 12 hours labour and all the rest put me off, i bought a VX220 about 7 years ago now, selling it in the next few weeks as i am not allowed to put my baby in the boot.0
