Best place to buy a bed......

I am looking at getting a new bed, ideally a Sealy super-king, but I wondered what the best online store is for this sort of thing?
I've read that bed shops are hugely expensive compared to online (as usual) but I've never bought a bed online before so I have no idea which sites are reputable!?!?
Any advice is welcome....
Cheers,
SteveP

I was very impressed with my local branch of Sleepmasters, who explained that your experience of comfort depends on your weight, and how much you depress the mattress. Their salesmen have a chart which links your weight to a recommended degree of softness, rated 1 (for puny singles) - 10 (persons of size). Their website is http://www.sleepmasters.co.uk/ but I'd visit a shop first, to try.0

Thanks for the replies guys!
I've had a Sealy king-size for the last 10 years and its only recently started going a bit rubbish so I'd be happy with a Sealy again I'd have thought - unless someone can point me in the right direction of a better make??
As far as decisions go - definitely want super-king as me and the missus like to spread out!A layer of this memory foam seems to be the way to go as I've led on one in the shops and it seems very comfy!
Sprung, pocket sprung etc etc - no idea really!?!?!?
Any advice about which online retailer is likely to be the best??
Thanks....

Please tell me you haven't bought from them yet????
It seems that you have been subject to the sales hype and gimmicks used in most big stores. Don't be taken in by the sales patter.
Do a search in the MSE forums for sleepmasters to see why.0 -

Sealy used to be very good......then they were taken over by Silentnight, and it all went wrong. So don't assume that a new Sealy would be anywhere near the same quality as your 10 year old one.
If I were you I would stay away from big brand names, and shop on line from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to actually unpack and sleep on the mattress. This way it is in their interest to make sure that you make the right choice the first time.0 -
Thanks for the replies warning me off Sealy
..... but in that case can anyone recommend me the best super-king bed with 2 large drawers and 2 small drawes and one of these memory foam top sections for under £1,000???
I have no idea what is a decent bed make it would appear so any advice is appreciated.
Many thanks......

Thanks for sending me to the forums search - you certainly seem to know a lot about beds, from what you have posted elsewhere. However, I was very happy with Sleepmasters. They were very courteous and helpful, and the bed I bought from them several years ago (pocket sprung) is extremely comfortable, and at a good price in their sale, too. I could not, when I looked, find any other bed as comfortable elsewhere.0 -

Well it's good to know that they do sometimes get it right.
You will pay way over the top if you use the big chain stores though.0 -
I've bought two beds from sleepmasters, they've lasted a few years now and they still look and feel fine. Not sure why they have such a bad rep? I just bought cheap models too, yet they seem of decent quality to me.
Price at the local independent bedstores near me are hideously expensive.poppy100
