Sole trader allowed to run 2 sole trader businesses?

thanks a million BoGoF and Debt_Free_Chick,

i think that the position is now completely clear. so long as i can account for both businesses separately, i can deal with them under one single tax return. that is great for me to know that because i will be doing the care work to actually pay for the set up of the web design. so it's brilliant to know that i can offset the costs of one business against the other.
