Making "lasagne" with penne pasta?

I was planning lasagne for tonight but it now seems I've only got enough lasagne for one layer. Is there any reason why I can't just stick in a layer or penne pasta for the second layer without pre-cooking it? I really can't be bothered to go out!

I think I would part cook it before adding it in, but otherwise it should be fine

No it will go chewy unless you put millions of water in it, which will ruin your white sauce, you will need to at least half cook it. (Ask me how I know.............)

I';ve heard about using uncooked pasta for pasta bake, but after the camping incident 20 years ago, where DH decided to save fuel by putting the uncooked pasta into the pasta sauce, I honestly don;t see how it can work :oWe went to the pub that night for supper :p

Why not just cook the penne then add it to the bake?

    I - oh saved by the Pen-pen! :p

(and yes millions of water is a unit of measurement, similar to gazillions of bubbles and wads of toilet paper!)
