    Well my wallet is a little lighter after seeing the vet today. Murphy got a general check over and the vet pronounced that the darkened area of the eye looked completely normal for a 15 year old cat.
    I have been warned off Google searches as by the end of last evening's research I was totally convinced that he had a malignant melanoma and would have to lose the eye at the very least.
    Pandering to my paranoia, my lovely vet took photographs of the eye and he is sending them to a colleague with more expertise in opthalmologie so I get a second opinion for free!

  • I had a Burmese cat who started off with a very small brown pigmentation in her mainly amber iris which gradually got bigger to cover the whole iris as she got older. She died aged 17 of kidney disease ( totally unrelated ) and was very healthy all her life until her old age.

    Which takes me back to talking about Iridology.....I would guess that the original point of the mark related to the kidneys and would have preceeded ( sp? ) clinical signs and diagnosis of kidney disease.
