mortgage deed independent adult witness?

Hi,

I currently live in my flat I'm selling and my lodger is buying it and I am buying a house.

I received the mortgage deed for my new house today and my lodger signed the witness section and it's been sent off today recorded delivery.

Will this be OK? or was I meant to just find someone off the street to sign it as I thought they had to know you and that it was your signature which he does?

I wouldn't have used the lodger myself, but if they are not part of the purchase of your new property (only the sale of your old one) then you have no problems.

The lodger is not part of the purchase of my new property, It's just me buying that and my lodger is buying my flat off me.

Looks like it should be fine then, as my solicitor has already sent me a second mortgage deed (the one the lodger) signed because someone at work messed up the first by writing in the wrong box.
