Ok strange problem here - expert help needed.

I just updated Sunbelt kerio firewall (free edition) this morning and restarted. Now I can't access my taskbar at all - everytime I move the cursor to that part of the screen I get the busy-cursor and can't access anything.

Any ideas how I can fix this??

Don't suppose you've got a windows key on your keyboard have you? It will be between the Ctrl and Alt keys. You could try that, or press one after the other 'Ctrl Alt Del' (Control Alt Del) find kerio in the programs list, highlight then 'End Task'. Once control has been restored, start\control panel\Add & Remove programs, find kerio, highlight the entry and click the Uninstall button. Then install ZoneAlarm http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

FWIW, I had a similar problem with kerio, I even installed it on a couple of laptops, I seem to recall a few problems so I went back to zone alarm. Of course some people get along with it ok, I say 'good for them', as for me. I tend to like my software to work when I want it and in conjunction with everything else on my system :)

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

    Thanks ABH,
I actually managed to look up the command line of system restore, then assigned it to one of my rklauncher buttons. I ran that and that did the trick, so I'm back to my old version of kerio.

Just to make sure I reupdated kerio and got exactly the same problem.

I'm not installing zone alarm, but I am interested in other good (hopefully free) firewalls.

It's getting to the point where you can't really find many free firewalls anymore, there are a few around including Kerio, ZoneAlarm but most of the other reputable names seem to have been purchased by other companies, or made into payware products.

Here's the list as it stands:

    Comodo:
    http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
    Tiny Personal Firewall:
    http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,8051,00.asp
    Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6
http://www.tucows.com/preview/213160 (this is one of the last freeware versions as sygate was bought out by Symentec: http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/sygate/index.jsp )

Glad you got your problem sorted out.

Yes but its crap! Or at least buggy anyway, having wasted more than an hour of my time this morning.

Oh dear! I had hoped they were wrong about you, but seems like they were right.

I recommend Sygate, still passes all the firewall tests and I use it

Kerio is 2nd choice rather than

Zonealarm which is resource hungry and also buggy
