Recommendations for facia boards, guttering,etc
Need to redo gutters in our 3 bed-semi & probably worth doing the facia boards in upvc at same time, as house really high and not accesible safely with ladders (would need scaffolding). Everest happened to be passing yesterday so other half got them to come and quote today, Price was outrageouse, but wondering what might be reasonable and does anyone have recommendations. We're in Glasgow. Thanks in advance.
Waddle you do eh?

I live in a 3 bed semi and cost of fascia boards and gutters in UPVC was £850. That was local joinery company.
Personally I would avoid national companies.
Whoever you go with, make sure they use "virgin" UPVC, anything else will start to go yellow or pink after about a year of exposure to sunlight.
There are two methods to do this. One is to attache 9mm boards to the existing wooden fascias. The other method is to completely remove the existing fascias and then replace with UPVC boards. The first method is cheaper because all that is involved is screwing on UPVC and that is easy to do, in fact it is basically a diy job. A 5 metre length of 9mm UPVC fascia is only £6 and would be cheaper at trade prices.

I would suggest you ask your question on the Moneysavingexpert forum "Is This Quote Fair"

just be careful, this seems to be a common line of work for travelling folk. generally over charge for very poor unfinished work,so go with recommendations....work permit granted!0

We have just had ours done - 3 bedroom house, upvc fascias and gutters, old stuff removed. £950. Great job, brilliant service.
I found a local company via Rated People - you put in all the details of the work you need doing and the site finds local tradesmen for you. You then arrange quotes. The site lists reviews of previous customers and the tradesmen receive ratings based upon their work. Great site. Would use it again. The bloke I chose had 100% positive ratings and his work and customer service lived up to the reviews I had read.
Like previous posts, I would also say steer clear of national companies - we found they had vastly inflated prices and also very annoying, pushy sales tactics. Our bloke literally came, measured up and gave a quote. Many national companies I phoned advised a 'quote' (or sales pitch) would take about 1 hour!!0 -
i have a similar question to this old thread...
after years of dodgy painters, i am thinking of replacing bargeboards and soffits on my chalet villa with upvc
any opinions on whether this is a good move? and if so any recommendations for the south glasgow area?0 -
Freshlook of Elderslie are excellent.
I've used them twice & both jobs are really well done.
2 internal & 1 external.
