postcard from mbna

got home today to find a postcard. thought, hmm, who do i know who's gone on holiday?
pretty shocked to discover it was from mbna. handwritten
my name and address was handwritten and the following message;
i confirm i will be calling you week commencing 24 July. If this is not convenient please call .......
it had the desired effect of scaring the cxxp out of me, but have learned on this site that even if someone does come round, i'm not obliged to let them in, but has anyone else had this sort of thing happen? it seems a straightforward declaration of intent, so i am really apprehensive about this... will be on teneterhooks all week... i know i had a letter a while back from them with the address handwritten which i thought was a bit strange, but this kind of tactic is in a different league altogether. pyschologically it is quite hardhitting in a way i can't explain, it just knocked me for six and i can feel the stress piling on... how likely is it they will come round?
i don't own my own house or any other assets except a 10 year old bucket on wheels and can only afford what i'm sending them, why can't they see that? of course, i hope my circumstances will change so i can pay them more, but the pressure they pile on sometimes just makes you feel like giving up!

Crikey!!! I certainly wouldn't let them in my door! Why don't you phone them and find out what they want to talk to you about and also if it all above board?
Yikes!!!:dance: "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0 -
This is an old trick from MBNA, they did it to both me and a frind of mine in 2004 and am still waiting for them to call.
They are trying to scare you into calling them and paying up, just ignore it and don't call them otherwise you will be on the phone for ages being bullied into paying what you can't afford.
If they do happen to call (which they won't) don't let them in.
MBNA are famous for their bully boy tactics, don't be pressurised by them. They never did agree my payment proposal and handed it over to a debt collection agency which was the best thing that could have happened as my payment is accepted without any hassle now.
Good Luck and don't worryDebt at highest May 04 - £65,639.22 - Started DMP with CCCS 1st June 04 & now self managed DMPDebt now 20th December 2015 £31677.13 Paid Off to date £33962.09 - just not going quickly enough!
Debt free date July 2024! I don't think so, it'll be going quicker than that!!!

How appalling. Return their 'calling card' saying you are not 'at home' to them0

surely this is a breach of DPA, what if it was sent to the wrong address? the content of the postcard give connotations of debt. report them to OFT for DPA break.0

Its rubbish.... They will not send people out. I have very very good knowlege of this firm. Trust me, this does not happen.
They bareley have enough staff in their chicken factory call centres, never mind employing chickens to go out on the streets for them !0 -
Bullies, I know they won't come out, but in some ways if it was me, i would want them to I would soon tell them what i thought of their bully boy tactics, you are facing up to your issues, go the press and tell them you have been scared witless, name and shame MBNA. -)0

the problem is with a lot of field collectors they are not assigned to a certain company so unfortunately they have to pick up the peices that the banks cant do.0 -
thank you all so much for your replies and setting my mind at ease. had a really terrible night full of disturbing dreams. this was the third night in a row, yesterday night i dreamt i was falling from a balcony and there were people down below who could have helped me and i was shouting at them for help but they kept dithering... i held on for as long as i could, but then i fell crashing to the ground, my voice was hoarse in the dream and at first i couldn't get the angry words out, so i tried again - 'you !!!!!!!s, you could have helped me' - only to find myself awake, heart shaking, palpitations, the lot, and worse, because i shouted in my sleep i woke the other half up...
now, i know i'm in the same boat as a lot of you good folk, - struggling alone, too ashamed to let the OH know... scared. i've read others' stories - mr justindebt's still sticks in the mind and made me cry buckets...
but all you in the same boat can understand, that right now i just can't, so i will carry on as i have been, until either i manage to sort myself out or please god, no he finds out himself.
but yes, the postcard did shake me, because if someone were to call round, the game would be up, and maybe my whole future. so thanks everyone, and i hope you're all right. Bless all.0 -
What game would be up?
Even if someone did come round what could they do? You have no assets, they can't take your 10 year old car away as you need it to get to work...
My way of dealing with MBNA is to call them and offer them a ridiculously small monthly payment of say £5. They will demand £60 then you say you can't possibly pay more than £10, take it or leave it. The result is that you pay £20 per month and you ask them to freeze the interest. Worked for me (except I give 40 and 60 per month on my two accounts which is fine for me.)[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -
We had a postcard too. Nobody came around. They tried all different types of tactics with us. Try not to let them get to you (easier said than done I know).:)Trying sooo hard to save :A0
