  • This looks like a good offer but can anyone advise me on what to get? Not being a mother myself, I'm not sure which products would be most useful. I want to buy some for my friend who is expecting at the moment. I wouldn't know what to do with petroleum jelly for example!

I just got my order , delivered free to my local Boots, I couldn't lift one of the boxes, I asked if we could pack the contents into carrier bags. We all burst out laughing when we saw what was in the box 10 huge tubs of nappy cream , I was expecting much smaller tubs. We noticed when we were leaving the shop the same tub on the shelf with the full price on it. I reckon there's enough nappy cream for quite few babies. The cotton wool was huge 500 gram packs too. A great deal indeed!
But I think we will end up giving some of the cream away. Or have more babies :rotfl:

The oil gel with aloe vera is really nice, smells lovely. I stocked up on that, also got conditioning shampoo and top to toe wash - saved £6.35.

best bet is plenty of nappy cream and plenty baby bath as it is versatile when i gave birth to my last son the best pressie i got was nappies and baby milk saved me a fortune. and midwifes in the hospital dont like u using wipes on a new born so cotton wool would be great too.

petroleum jelly acts as a barrier, so is good for newborns, put some on their bottoms, and it stops the number 2s or wee wee hitting the skin directly. Makes for softer skin and less chafing or nappy rash.

I would go with the cotton wool, we went through so much when our DS was born, as we didn't use wipes till he was 3 months.

    2 x cotton wool
    1 x petroleum jelly
1 x baby oil - fab stuff for their skins and they love it for baby massage
    1 x nappy cream

Just wanted to point out if babies skin is intact, when using disposable nappies, barrier cream is unneccessary. In fact, it coats the nappies making them less absorbant, less effective and actually increase risk of nappy rash. If using tradtional nappies, then barrier cream of some sort is indeed useful. Not being nit picky, but thought this might help. :)

I just wanted to agree. I was always told nappy cream will stop nappies working correctly and increase the risk of nappy rash. Only use it if your baby has a rash, as soon as it starts to clear, then stop. Worked for me, we had very few nappy rash occaisions.

Excellent post, I've stocked up on Baby bath, although all the big ones are gone, this is still a great offer.

The nappy cream will last you for ages, only use it when its needed. We never had any troubles with our young-un, just keep them clean and changed..buts its nice to have the cream just in case.
