One more question sorry if anyone can advise?
Would it be stupid of me to ask my bank whether they would let me keep my account open should I go bankrupt?
It's a very basic account with only a cash machine card, can't even withdraw money over the counter or use it to pay for good online/in shops etc.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Bump. Does anyone know?0

Ribboninthesky, i work for the Benefits Agency, by law, they will let you keep a basic accoutn open. These where introduced by the government to phase out giros and the like, and to save money. Bankrupts are allowed these accounts, as there are no credit facilities.
I have some info on this somewhere if you want me to email it to you, but rest assured, the account will be fine.
You're taking a brave step, best of luck for whatever the future holds.

Hi Ribboninthesky,
Give the CCCS a ring 1st thing on Monday and ask their advice. The will know what the best course of action is in this situation especially as the DMP is already through them.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.
JulesDebt at highest May 04 - £65,639.22 - Started DMP with CCCS 1st June 04 & now self managed DMPDebt now 20th December 2015 £31677.13 Paid Off to date £33962.09 - just not going quickly enough!
Debt free date July 2024! I don't think so, it'll be going quicker than that!!!

Huge hugs

Reading through all of this it sounds like bankrputcy would be your best plan (though do speak to cccs). To continue to pay off the debts would mean your children would miss out on a lot for years to come. You are allowed as others have said, to keep a basic bank account. The benefit would be all yours and you could start budgeting afresh on the money you have.
Your children are still young yet for you to be able to work full time. Juggling single parent hood and full time work is hard (I know I do it  ). It sounds like financially and emotionally you need to be able to take time to get back on your feet and pick up your life. Part time work is good though because it builkds your self esteem, gets you out of the house, and will mean extra money for you overall. I have a friend who is a single parent she has just started back 16 hours on minimum wage and is £50 better off per week.0
