good news and bad...

got the first of my bank statements today, only took a couple of days after authorising the money. first four years of account number one, goes back just over the six years, feb 00, when the account opened. it's scary to look back at what i've spent, scarier that i actually remember some of it!

got a question though, got my online credit report from experian today (30 day free trial, 500 piggie points for signing up!) and there is a cifas warning on it. it's something to do with my stepdad and a drawn out arguement he's having with the car finance company...long story and THIER fault i stress! what can i do about this, he doesn't share a name with me so surely his credit problems aren't mine???

Hi there, Im an ex lender. Dont worry about it. When you apply, calls will be made to the members concerened (ie finance co's) and they will verify this. Say for example you lived with someone who had a cifas warning, or someone in your flats did with the same add but diff flat number, it would be on there also. Its not a bad thing at all.

Yes, no need to worry lynsayjane. CIFAS exists to protect innocent consumers and to reduce lenders' losses from fraud. It simply requires lenders to make additional checks and to take care, and lenders cannot refuse a credit application simply due to the appearance of a CIFAS warning at one of the applicant's addresses.

Particularly if its flats, private info is being given out to possibly complete strangers, cant be right surely

The info will not be given to the credit applicant, just to the lender and it will not be specific, just enough for them to know that the warning does not concern the applicant.

I have a CIFAS warning on my credit file for a woman who applied for aomething with Online finance using my address whilst I've been living there. I wrote to Online finance to see if I could get more details and they said sorry, but we can't divulge any details.
