Advice Please e'on Tariffs
Options
hi all
I drew up a league table of likely savings from my Dual Fuel Online Tariff with e'on, except that one of the sites used the exact words e'on use to name the tariff I was on.
The figures showed savings of £476 at the top [B Gas & npower close together], down to almost £400 at 10th place [another e'on tariff].
So I phone e'on & asked them how my current and possible new tariff with them [i.s the one in 10th spot] compared asnd they said the saving would only be £90/year.
So I switched internally with e'on on the thinking that if nearly £400 was actually only £90, I might as well stick with them.
Two days later I had a letter confirming, and another putting my monthly DD up to £113 from £83.
So now I'm thinking should I switch to B Gas or npower not really knowing how big the saving would be given the lack of an exact comparison.
Any advice much appreciated.
I'm still within the 14 day cooling off with e'on.
Thanks very much
Mel

Sorry...I meant to say that NONE of the comparison sites described my tariff in the same exact words as e'on do.0

Why not just work out the cost of the tariff yourself? If you've had the letter did it not include prices? And surely the quoted difference was from your previous E-on tariff and the new more expensive E-on tariff?0

Kim thanks but I already spent two days off on this, plus did calculations at work, and my head is in a spin.
No their letter just names the new Tariff as Dual Fuel Online v6.
I was hoping someone would have some experience or knowledge for me.

By the way the new tariff may not be more expensive, maybe my DD was going to go up anyway, as that's a reactive adjustment I think.

Hi melpomene,
It sounds as though the tariff you have switched to is FixOnline version 6.
This tariff will be cheaper than the tariff you were previously on; as it’s the cheapest tariff we have had recently.
Therefore I agree with your last post, that the Direct Debit has possibly gone up as a result of the earlier Direct Debit amount not being high enough to cover your usage, and not because the tariff is more expensive.
What was your previous tariff called?

hi Brian
It was just called Dual Fuel Online, similar to the v6 [yes that's my new one], but attracting slightly less online discount.

Hi,
When did you start on the 'old' tariff? Sorry to ask questions, but we've never had a tariff simply called Duel Fuel Online.

Here's the start of the email confirming the change:
*Thanks for changing your energy product to FixOnline 6 from FixOnline. You'll see this change on your next bill*
I saw it described as Dual Fuel Fixed Online on a previous bill I'm sure I'm not imagining that there was no exact match at any of the comparison sites.
I know I would have been charged £30 penalty had I moved to another provider before June 2010, but am not sure if that means I had been in it less than a year or not.
Just saw my latest bill is online - £465+ for gas & £100 for electricity. Sorry that's kind of a side issue, but it's huge!

Hi Mel,
When you started comparing tariffs did you enter your usage in annual kWh or in monetary amounts?
Savings of £400 approx seem very high compared against your original tariff of FixOnline. A £90 saving between FixOnline and FixOnline version 6 is much more realistic.
Did the comparison websites allow you to compare against the original FixOnline tariff to show this £400 approx saving or did you just pick a different tariff from the drop down list?
The tariff on your bill will have been described as Dual Fuel Fixed Online, on the comparison sites it is likely that it shows as just FixOnline as you would have preselected the duel fuel option.

Yes I used KwHs as my measure.
I wasn't able to compare like with like bacause all the comparison sites had some sort of qalifier to the e'on tariff, like 'v6' for example.
There was no plain simple 'Fix Online'.
I picked what sounded most similar.
