    Hi Kirsty

Do you mean your debt/account was only opened 7months ago? It sounds like they are recording that you missed the first payment.

There will only be one actual default on the account, what date does it say (the later 'defaults' usually just mean you are behind with the payment.

First port of call is to contact your creditor and ask them to confirm your balance and if you are up to date with repayments. If you are request that they remove the default.

If they say you are behind then they still need to send you a default notice before they can register a default on your credit file. If this is the case you would need to write to ask for proof that a default notice had been sent (there is a template if you need this, once you have found out whether your payments are up to date or not).

    Hi
    thanks for replying,
the credit account has been opened for agaes but i just started to pay it back in september 09. when i checked my credit file, every month from septmber has a D on it, i only pay £3 a month but i am still making a payment so surely they cant mark me down as D as the payment hasnt been missed.
    thanks

Is £3 less than the minimum required monthly payment? If so, then you are still in default of the credit agreement I would have thought, sorry. :o

    hi
they rang me up and wanted to come to an arrangement to pay and so i said £3 as i cant really commit to much more at the minute and so they agreed to the £3.

As Snaggles says if you pay less than the original contracted amount then you have defaulted on your terms and conditions so it is correct. What default date shows on your report? This will stay on your report for 6years from that date.

Even though they have agreed to reduced payments its still not what you should have been paying.

A payment arrangement usually shows as a different status to a default (it might be an 'I' status if it's with Equifax from memory, but not sure). Both will affect your credit rating though.

How far off being able to meet the minimum repayments are you? How much would it be per month? If you post your SOA, there might be things we can suggest to help you find a few extra pounds each month.

Sorry, I was thinking someone had posted the link but that was another thread I've just read. :rotfl:

It's a statement of affairs, basically a list of income and outgoings. I will go and find the link and come back and edit this post with it. :)

There you go - it has an option to format it for this site, so you can post it on here (don't worry, it's all anonymous, and whilst you might get a bit of 'tough love' :D if you have the highest Sky package and a luxury gym membership, we wont judge, laugh, sneer or recoil in horror, no matter how bad it is. We have pretty much all been there).

If you need a bit of day to day support, feel free to pop in on the Daily Chat Thread too - it's a general chat thread where we don't talk about money/debt specifically, but it's a place where you can get things off your chest and have a laugh with others who know what you are going through.
