Could you tell me if we pay the amount they are asking, then do we appeal to get them to look at the case properly and how long will this take.

I take it you are refering to your other post and are appealing the amount you have been assesed at .
I would find out if the alleged debt is valid and get a hold of your data protection files .(There is a sticky at the top of this forum) .These will cost you £10 now and they have 40 days to furnish your request but don't hold your breath on this .
Start woking out anomilies on your account of mis calclulations etc .Write to the complaints team about any issues you have with calculations etc and start from there .I started in September and by the time i got my DP prints back from them and through complaints i am on my first appeal (March) .It will take time but will be worth it if you take the time to investigate it fully .
Im up to £150 compensation so far for mal administration and i haven't been near 2nd level complaints yet

Well, when you ask how long - I'll just share with you our experiences.!!!
Re-assessment made Dec 2007, CSA informed us of re-assessment April 2008, we appealed 'out of time' Jan 2009, appeal granted, it is now March 2010, still awaiting Tribunal date hearing regarding appeal hearing and incorrcet assessment, and letter recieved yesterday from Tribunal states hearing not expected to be before July 2010, as high volumes of appeals at present (hard to believe we know !!)
So suppose in answer to your question, in our experience, expect (if goes to Tribunal) that your appeal will take over 2 and 1/2 years minimum.0 -
Thanks for your info. I posted a new thread as I was asking a different question but should I have just kept it on the old one.
Have done as all advised and requested files, MP been contacted and he has contacted the CSA, put in complaint and starting the appeal.
Just see what happens now.0 -
