Do you find it shameful when you ask or borrow money from your parents or our family? I actually don't. But I've encountered a lot of people who do which I think is wrong. Which made me interested about you guys, what's your say on this?

I wouldn't personally ask my parents or my family to loan me money, and unless the house is at risk or if my sisters couldn't feed their children then I wouldn't loan them money either.

If one feels the need to borrow money, then something is wrong with your budget, you have to cut the cloth to suit your income.

    Just my thoughts.
  • Hmm, interesting question. I can't bring myself to ever ask for money. Even if I'm offered I'd feel terribly guilty accepting it whether it be loan or as a gift.
However on the occasions in the past where I've had my own money. I've been very happy to lend to friends/family or buy them things that they need when they're skint.

Probably why I'm broke now!! I'll keep hold of it in future. :-) Also I've learned the hard way that friendship and money don't mix!!!

I've also learned that the tightest people are the richest people. So maybe I should start being a bit more of a cheapskate :-).

for me it depends on what it is for,

i say this as i live quite a long way from my family so it can be very expensive to visit them (usually between £100 and 200 for a long weekend), which they want me to do more often because of seeing my daughter, in these situations i do not mind asking for money to help pay for the traveling costs, mainly becuase i probably wouldnt go there as often if they didnt keep on saying how much they want to see us and how much they miss us etc

for anything else probably wouldnt like to ask as it would have been my mistake which i would want to get out off and which i would not want my family to lose out because of.

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    No, not now

    If (big IF)
The family or friends I will ask to borrow money from, know my situation, what I'm doing,
to get debt free (most goes over their heads ;))

When working I did, forget my grub or cash somedays, I'd ask a few peeps to lend me a a few quid repay the next day,
and i'd do the same for someone else

The only time I'd borrow money is if I was desperately skint with no chance of getting any and needing to eat/pay my rent. Apart from that, I think (I can't remember) I've had prescriptions paid for, but that's about it

I see no shame in it and I have borrowed money from my parents in the past. The main thing to me is it has always been for something unexpected and I have always had a clear plan/timescale to pay it back before its taken. I would be ashamed if I could not pay it back as agreed.

As it is it was mostly in my younger days they helped me out, now the tables have turned and I lend my parents money here and there. Mostly short term cashflow on eitherside.

oh i hate it! My bank account got done for £2000 (all my wages and od)last year in some scam, i got it all back thankfully but in the mean time i had to borrow from my mum. I felt bad, but i dont know why i felt as bad as i did as it was genuinely out of my control.

I only ever borrow if i absolutely need to ie occassion mentioned above, once when my boss didnt pay me on time and i had to borrow for a week til he paid me as i feel if i only borrow in extreme emergencies my parents will know i need the money.

I would never borrow off anyone because i wanted to go out and was going to pay them back next week or whatever..thats just taking the pee lol

So long as they can afford it and you make them a priority creditor and have full intentions of repaying it, then, yes I feel it is fine and not shamefull to ask for money from family. But only if you really need it - say short term until wages come in or as an investment - say for a business idea. Just depends on what the money will be used for.
