Agency References

When you work through an agency is it correct that once you leave that position you get a reference from the agency rather than from the company you were at?

What type of references do agencies give - just confirming that you worked there and that's it?

Usually - well based on my experience - yes.

However, if you built up a good working relation with the agencies client while you were there, there is nothing to stop you contacting them for either a reference or ask them if you can give a company contact to any future prospective employer - they can only say no!

BTW - it is always courteous to ask anyone if they are prepared to be contacted for a reference.
