    Hi, what a great thread!

I have been unemployed on and off since May 09. I was volunteering at the CAB for a while last year.
Eventually I managed to get a part-time retail job over xmas. It was minimum wage and the manager came into work on a broomstick but I was just grateful for anything at that time!

I was then offered an admin job through an agency to start pretty much as soon as the retail job ended, so I reluctantly gave up my voluntary work. It was nothing special but I was finally getting into a routine and starting to get my confidence back.

The temp job was expected to last another couple of months but I was unfairly treated by company and lied to by the agency (long story). I was basically let go last week with no warning or even a thanks. It was a horrible and upsetting experience...

So here I am again! The familiar feelings of boredom and isolation are starting to hit now that finally getting over the shock and upset of last week. It's not all bad though... I have two interviews next week and have been having a serious think about my long term career options.

Hi Betty don't worry about the job centre. If your doctor thought leaving work was the right step to take, then that's all the matters. Did you discuss your illness with your then employer?

Hi there, yes I did and have all the documentation to prove so. Sent it all off to the DM and awaiting their reply. Fingers crossed! Thanks for your message :)

    Hi everyone!

Well my hubby is currently out of work, lost his job from an agency end of jan, was only there a few weeks and was offered 12 months work.

So were a family of 5, us 2 and 3 kids aged 9, 4 and 3 and another on the way in June. He is on jsa contribution, we get child tax credit and child benefit :( not much when we have bills and own home to pay etc well just claiming on the insurance for our mortgage.

Nothing job wise has come up, he is an electrician but alot of jobs require 17th edition which he doesnt have, have asked if there is any help with paying for this course and exam which the answer is no :(

I've been unemployed since Oct 09 after leaving my prev job due to health reasons, I'm now claiming JSA.

I've been trying desperately to find full time paid work while volunteering in a primary school, but with no luck, then a few weeks ago I heard about a training scheme similar to an apprenticeship for young people who want to work with children. I applied & have been offered a place to start after Easter (if my CRB comes thru in time). I'm so happy & can't wait to sign off JSA, as the whole experience has been awful.

My advice to others would be to stay positive, consider other options to full time work if you can & volunteer in a field related to where you want to work.

    Good luck to everyone x

Hi, welcome to MSE, might be worth asking on the Employment, Jobseeking & Training forum if any one there knows a way your hubby can get some free training to up his electrician skills.

job centre here are not very helpful, more interested getting you on benefits and to sign on fortnightly rather than "help" find work.

Hey all, posted off my CAB application today, had to pay for next day delivery because I was just crossing every t and was undecided whether I had finished. I have taken the centrica shl test but they won't tell me how I have done until I have sent them my responses to their competency questions. I have an interview at the council on the 12th though annoyingly it's only 2 days a week. If the worst comes to the worst, I will be at the CAB soon.

    hi guys great thread
i was laid off on nov09 due to company restructoring have been made redundant 4 times in the last 15 years mostly due to companies going belly up.
i have found the job centre to be completly useless the only jobs i and they can find are all 20-30 miles away mostly min wage only problem is i've had to take the car off the road as its an expense we cant justifie.
i've thought about starting a small business would need about £3k investment to get running but every where i go they say NO the annoying thing is my business plan is sound i posted i few internet ads to guage interest and am getting a good response but without investment i'm peeing in the wind. searched for grants none suitable in my area banks say no because my credit file is not perfect family could but wont help.
my point to this thread where the hell is the goverment help and support

    Great idea for a thread!

I've been unemployed for nearly a week :o and I'm hating it! Was made redundant from a job that I really loved :(

I go to college pretty much full time so I do have stuff to occupy myself with BUT I can't afford to pay the train fare to college with no wage coming in so I'm having to dig into my savings to pay to get to college. I can't go on any benefits because I'm in education; but I won't be able to afford uni if I don't stop digging into my savings soon :undecided:

I've applied for a few jobs, not heard anything yet, I'm trying to decide whether to apply for a job at a local eating disorders centre; I'm very aware of how crap a body image I have and how easily swayed I am! :o

Does anyone have any good CV builder sites? I need to update mine.
